Take photos

The best tip is to take photos in additional to verbal description. I believe that was the key to my easy claim when my basement was flooded with hot water.

I created a list of every damaged item, and took a photo, labeled each photo with the number on the list.

When I submitted my claim inventory I enclosed a set of photos.

I was never questioned and got paid for every item I put on the list of damaged items.

I particularly took care to take careful photos of more expensive items. I showed the water level and the place where the item was in the basement when it was flooded.

I took pictures and put a ruler next to each item that showed the water line.

I also typed the list, rather provide a hand written inventory. I tried to make it easy as possible for the insurance company to see what I was claiming.
